I won't go into great detail, the other 1 star reviews are very well written. I am a Christian and this book is offensive. The only "magical checks in the mail" are for the author of this TRASH. Awful, I couldn't even get through all of it.

I read this about 10 years ago when it was first released. It was interesting but I put it away and didn't think of it again until recently. Many changes happened in my life over the past ten years. My father suffered a long illness and passed. My mother has been ill. I too became ill, I believe to be caused by stress. These events were definitely life changing. I saw the book and decided to read it again. I think I was at a stage in my life that I could truly appreciate this book more. I can honestly say it has made a significant impact on the way I live my life. I am now reading another book in the series and am applying it every day. I am happier than I have ever been. I highly recommend these books.

When I first began to read this book I honestly thought it was a crock and a waste of my time and money. I started with an expectation of what I thought the book was about and the style of writing that I should expect. When I initially disagreed with one of the authors viewpoint with in the book and scrutinized another's personal life through research I was almost stop reading, but I decided to continue reading anyway. I made a wise decision to.I had heard about the law of attraction before, but never took the time to investigate what it truly meant. As the book unraveled and began to reveal "The Secret," and how to apply it into my life immediately, I allowed myself to be open in receiving whatever insight I could in order to help me overcome several difficulties in my life and achieve a better quality of life overall.By the middle of the book I chose to practice some of the techniques that were briefly described through the text just to try it out. For the past 3 weeks I have had pain in the middle of my back. I had even recently gone to a chiropractor to help alleviate my symptoms, which only worked temporarily. The moment I tried the technique of closing my eyes, clearly my mind, and speaking affirmations of confidence and healing something changed. I did not realize the pain in the middle of my pain, which I had been experiencing for weeks, was gone until about 5-10 minutes later when I stopped to stretch. I am not a blogger, I do not receive free books, or any type of compensation for this or any review I ever write. I also am usually one to dispel instant claims of miraculous effects occurring just from reading a text or saying a chant, so when I tell you my pain left and has not been back since I am shocked in a way. I still am secretly wondering when the pain will reappear, but by the continuation of applying the law I highly doubt it will. From that moment I figured if it's that easy then I wonder what life will be like once I apply it to every area of my life.By the end of the book and my own personal testament, I was hooked. This is a life changing book and I see why it has sold millions and millions of copies around the world. It really works if you apply and believe. After previewing The Power and The Magic, I intend to read those two as well. This has easily become one of my all-time favorite books and I highly recommend it. Just try it. What do you have to lose?

When I first heard about this, I wasn't sure what to think. It sounded a little hokey, to be honest, but then I started reading it and that changed. This book makes you really look at how you see the world and your thoughts about it. You really can change everything. If you're floundering or struggling, read this book. I wish I had read The Secret much earlier in my life. I am 58 years old and have held negative thoughts in my head my entire life. The idea of the Laws of Attraction makes sense to me. can't say i was happy with this because i thought it was a book and I am Christian and I believe Christ wants us to better oursselves and this is basically to help get you into a better place mentally and physically and spiritually. I saw a review and the woman slammed this and i read thesecond day and it says to have gratitude to shift your energy and you will see miracles take place commit to writting down 100 things a day. WOW it really does help.

O watched the film version on Netflix and thought the book would delve more deeply into the law of attraction. Turns out the entire franchise is nothing more than a brilliant marketing campaign. I will definitely give them that. After the book, all I was left with was the sad realization that the Law of attraction really is just that: a mystical makeover for greed. If you just concentrate hard enough in the shiny material things you want, they'll magically and effortlessly gravitate to you... Somehow!

After two miscarriages, 4 failed fertility treatment cycles and being told by three separate fertility specialists that my husband and I had less than 5% chance of conceiving and carrying to term, we decided it was time to take a more proactive and informed approach to our infertility. Our search for solid information lead in many directions, including to this book. We bought it, devoured it, put as many of its suggestions into practice in our lives as we possibly could, and gave the program 4 months to work its magic while taking a break from fertility treatment. From it we learned that though women with high FSH like myself are often told its because we have "diminished ovarian reserve" and "poor egg quality", the science of egg development and quality is a lot more complicated and there are ways you can intervene to encourage the eggs you do have remaining to be the best they can be. I'm science minded enough to know that I can't draw any firm conclusions about whether the ideas in this book made the difference for us or we just got lucky, but after those four months we started trying to conceive again, did so right away, and I gave birth to our beautiful, healthy, miracle baby girl just a few days ago. My advice is, don't let doctors dictate what is or isn't possible based on their own repertoire of (limited) treatment options they make available to their patients. If you've struggled with infertility, and you're determined to not go down without a fight like me after the doctors have told you you're a lost cause and to start considering egg donors or adoption, this book simply MUST be one of the items in your arsenal of alternative approaches.

This book is everything! I would highly recommend reading this as a first step to anyone having trouble conceiving or having recurrent miscarriages. I had recurrent miscarriages and terrible fertility scores- an fsh of 14 and an AMH <1. My fertility doctors gave me about a 4-8% chance of an IUI helping me conceive. But i wanted to try it. So i did everything possible to improve my odds. I did acupuncture along with taking ubiquinol, melatonin, and DHEA as suggested in the book. 14 weeks after i added in the DHEA i got pregnant during my second IUI. I believe everything I did made all the difference. I do want to mention that i wish the author hadn't downplayed the importance of cutting out caffeine. Even a small amount of caffeine per day leading up to pregnancy may increase miscarriage risk- they don't have enough evidence disproving that. For me I think cutting it out completely was a vital (though difficult) step. I cut down on sugar but i didn't completely eliminate it like i did the caffeine and alcohol. Regardless- this book is so needed in a world where doctors often don't provide us with important information to improve our health. It makes sense that optimizing the body's health will help with fertility too. Read this book and do acupuncture regularly for at least 3 months before you try to conceive. I did acupuncture 2-3 times a week during the cycle that got my pregnant. My doctor was suprised i could get 3 follicles at my age and with my fertility numbers. But it's totally absolutely possible - you just need to give your body a chance to respond to the changes you make! This book is a must have whether you try naturally or with assistance.

After being diagnosed unexplained infertility and multiple failed treatments, I lost all the faith on medical help and myself after 3 years of trying. Running out of budget, we cannot afford another fertility treatment in a near future. So I turned my hope to diet and supplememt. This book is enlightening. I started taking ubiquonol, vitamin d and inositol. In addition, i cut off all the refined carb, candy and processed food. Eating nothing but nutritious lean meat, nuts and veggies. 4 cycles after I implement the plan instructed by the book, I first time ever saw a double line on my testing strip! This book is a life changer, telling the truth no fertility doctor will discuss with you.

After 5 years of trying to conceive, 3 miscarriages,failed ivf, countless other fertility treatments; I bought this book. I took the suggested supplements and I conceived within a couple months. My son was born May 2016. We decided to have another baby and I had a miscarriage. We were not successful until I began taking the supplments mentioned in this book. I went on the supplements and became pregnant within a couple of months. My daughter was born in November 2018. Without this book I know I wouldn't have my babies.

This book contains good advice for anyone who would like to live a healthy lifestyle and reduce their exposure to toxins. I also think it is a good book for anyone who has struggled with infertility because all her suggestions can't hurt and it seems like they have helped other women. But unfortunately for me, following her plan did not change my IVF outcome. I did much of what she suggests -- reduced exposure to BPA and phthalates, followed the supplement suggestions, and reduced (though did not eliminate) refined carbs in my diet. I did this for 3-4 months between IVF cycles. In my subsequent cycle, I did have more eggs retrieved (so perhaps quantity improved) but the quality was still poor. I don't regret trying because again, her suggestions are probably good suggestions for anyone, but I did not see the impact.

After my second failed attempt with IVF I decied to purchase this book. We had done two rounds in which only 1 embryo made it to blastocyst stage after retrieving 11-12 embryos. The first round the blastocyst tested abnormal. The second round the blastocyst tested normal, but I did not get pregnant after the transfer. Before starting a third round I starting taking the vitamin regimen in this book (minus the DHEA). I also cleaned up most of my personal care products and my cleaning products with items the author suggested. I'm happy to report my third round was successful! I am pregnant and we have one healthy embryo in the freezer.

I wish I could be a Swallow or an Amazon. It was great fun to read about the adventures these kids came up with and their idyllic lifestyle. This is also an interesting (if fictional) view of hands-off parenting: the mother gladly sends her children on their independent adventure to an island with just a few guidelines about touching base infrequently.This book's greatest strength and weakness is that it lacked serious conflict and did not suck me in. I was able to put the book down...and I found that pleasant for a change, since I normally gulp in one sitting. I read some, put it down for a few days, went back and read some more. I wish that today's literature had not built up a desire in me and in so many others to have serious, high conflict. I'm glad the kids were never in grave danger or trying to save the world. They had adventures, but I was never terrified for their lives and just enjoyed their good-natured battles and explorations.

If you're not familiar with the author Arthur Ransome, just Google his name to see how big his fan group is.These books (Swallows and Amazons is the first in the series) were written about 80 years ago and the stories are still wonderful. I started reading the S&A books back in the mid-1960's when I was still in grade school. My mom had read them as a young girl and she got me started. I now own all 12 of the books in the series and I re-read them every couple years. Even though I know all the plot lines, Ransome tells such great stories that I always enjoy them as much as the first time I read them about 50 years ago. They're perfect for adventure lovers of any age!! Although you don't HAVE to read the books in order in order, it's better if you do as the author develops the existing characters and introduces new ones as he goes along so you get to know them. Swallowdale is the second in the series after Swallows and Amazons.

such a lovely, evocative and nostalgic book, which has always been my favourite in the series. I'm always struck with an overwhelming urge to go camping in the dales after reading these! The characters are very relatable and likable despite this book being 87 odd years old!I would have given it a full 5 stars were it not for the fact that close to $10 is an absolute outrage for a kindle book which has been in publication since 1931.This is a classic in my opinion, and it's sad to think that price might prohibit some readers from purchasing it.

Pretty much every installment of Arthur Ransome's outstanding series is well worth reading. His laidback, first-hand, expert-storytelling writing style and his wonderful characters make these books just as enjoyable (perhaps even more enjoyable) for adults, as well as kids. I would recommend that you read them in order. If you enjoy this series, I would also recommend Enid Blyton's classics, such as her "Adventure" series or her "Mystery" series. A newer book, Summer of Coins, (first of "A Ginger and Jack Mystery series), also has a similar vibe. Highly recommend Swallows and Amazons!

While "Swallows and Amazons" was written in the 1930s that doesn't mean there isn't a lot here, especially for children who love the thought of adventure without their parents. Parents will appreciate the metaphors and poetry of the book; young readers will love the idyllic adventure on a lake island in the last warm days of summer holidays in the North of England. (This was the first long book I read as a child. One of the unintended consequences of this was that it gave me confidence to tackle other longer, more complex books.)

I was hurt and deeply angered when I read another reviewers comment about the book being unsuitable for children because it had "racism and animal abuse". Unbelievable!! First of all, the whole story is about girls and boys working together, at a time when girls didn't do things such as playing around in boats and fighting pretend pirates. And as for the "animal abuse",that is ridiculous. The book is very well written, and I soon realized when I started it that it was not the dry, dull book I had expected it to be! Every adventurous child and adult that enjoys a good laugh and some thankfully short-lived sorrows should definitely read Swallows and Amazons!!

I purchased for someone who is new to sailing. I was surprised this was such a popular book. I learned about it from a friend. It's not easy to start and old-fashioned in its style. The sailing descriptions are riveting once one gets in to the story.

These are children being children, not children trying to young adults, making it very different from much contemporary fiction aimed at tweens/young teenagers.

This book covers the destruction of the British military (in a war forced upon the Zulu) at Islandawana. One of the greatest defeats of British military.

I have been to Isandlwana and found it a very moody sort of place. The mountain does brood over the battlefield like some lion squatting over its kill daring anything to come close. I stayed at the Isandlwana Lodge which, apparently, is where the Zulu right horn came over the ridge. Sat on the verandah, with an evening drink, looking over to the white memorial stones scattered underneath the mountain it is so easy to imagine the Zulus coming over the ridge either side of you and watching the pathetically small lines of red battalions forming up to meet the devastating attack.I have read pretty much all the highly recommended accounts of the battle and each one has had, in my opinion, a little more to add to the equation.."How Man Can Die Better" is no exception. Col Mike Snook has done an excellent job with this book. It is easy to read and does not go over the top with discussions regarding the unpronounceable Zulu Regiments as some authors tend to do. As he says it is unfortunate that there is very little of the Zulu side that has come down to us.The big question is why, when in enemy territory and when the strength of the enemy is unknown and his whereabouts unknown, split your command? Didn't Chelmsford read anything about Custer at the Little Big Horn in '76? It's amazing how Junior Officers and Other Ranks have to always bear the brunt of the ineptitude of Senior Officers. Anyway, I digress!I do thoroughly recommend this book, you can never read too much about this battle. Each book, as I have said, has a touch more to add.

This is a hard book to review because it's a mixture of good and bad. I've been to Isandlwana and stood in all the key places of the battle, and in fact of the rest of the Zulu wars of 1879. There is no better, more thorough, more compelling account of the movement of forces involved than this book, and few convey better the sense of the battle. The problem I have is that virtually everyone who writes about Isandlwana agrees that Chelmsford was the major cause of the defeat, but they then divide into anti-camps. You're either anti-Dernford or anti-Pulleine, and most of the books I've found are poisoned in part by the ant-perceptions of their authors. This one is no exception. It recounts events as correctly as circumstances allow, but it interprets them in a decidedly anti-Dernford context. Pulleine can do nothing wrong and Dernford nothing right. Respectfully, I disagree. Dernford did do wrong things, but they probably did nothing in the end but add his own forces to the casualty list. Pulleine had the only realistic chance of saving the British forces given Chelmsford's blunders, and he failed to concentrate. In battles fought within days by the other two thrusts of Chelmsford's forces, the commanders proved that they could defeat Zulu forces under similar conditions. Rorke's Drift, fought the next day, saw a victory of a small group against thousands of Zulu. The common thread was that the winners concentrated and defended, and the losers died. I would recommend this book for its incredible insight into terrain and movement, and I'm on my second reading. I'd recommend that the judgments of Durnford and Pulleine be taken with a grain of salt.

Lt. Colonel Snook has written a loving tribute to the British soldier of the Victorian Empire. Does it add anything to the battle of Isandlwana? It has strengths. His careful analysis of the battlefield adds some clarity and the eye of a professional soldier. His clear dislike for Durnford seems more personal then based on evidence. He makes excuses for officers of the 24th for making poor decisions and condemns similar mistakes by officers outside the regiment. It is an interesting look at the Victorian army in action. As long as you are aware that the author has his side to tell it can be worth the time.

A good detailed history of the Zulu War in South Africa. I learned a lot about the battles mentioned. If you are interested in history, this is an excellent read. It was fortunate for the British that they had superior weapons otherwise the slaughter would have been complete. While reading these two books, a line that the Germans are said to have used about the British Army in WWI, "Lions led by donkeys." They admired the fighting spirit of Tommy Adkins in the ranks but thought the field and general staffs were utter fools. Of course, that is to be expected when officerships are purchased rather than earned through training and experience and promotions are based on who your father was rather than what you have learned through those two schools.

Detail is excellent, and well founded especially to a layman. Very clear writing, but having maps to hand (as suggested by the author)would be very helpful to understanding the flow of the action. The portions that are conjecture are clearly identified and well supported. On to companion book on Rorkes Drift!

An engrossing analysis of a great battle by an expert who has carefully studied the ground and doesn't hesitate challenging the traditional accounts when he thinks the evidence points otherwise. Only the hint of his bias for the 24th (in which he later served) detracts slightly from his objectivity. I am looking forward to seeing the battlefield myself soon with his book as a guide.

I was only familiar with information from the Washing of the Spears era. Like the further evaluations of Custer, and unlike the horrible Zulu Dawn, these professionals retained some semblance of fighting cohesiveness to the end. The author is a member of the regiment so they are not going to suffer, but it is a logical analysis that does not depend on the testimony of everyone after the fact trying to cover their tracks.

A rather good text crippled by largely indecipherable maps on Kindle Paperwhite. Printed book surely much better. Worth reading to provide a background for the same author's later book on Rorke's Drift.

This is the story of what happens when the fundamentals of a society shift. It is a story of sadness, respect, fear, and love. The author has taken an issue far removed from our culture today but has dealt with in in such a way that the reader can't help but think of some of the fundamental issues that divide our culture today and how both sides seem so sure they are right.

A re-edition of one of Ngugi's early works, A River Between explores the roots of many current Kenyan and African issues set in a past, quasi-legendary time. As in his novel, Matigari, the prose is clear and direct and some may call the characterization simple. Behind the simplicity is a well-thought out and provocative tale involving the conflict between tradition, so-called modernization, and the role education plays in said conflict.

"The River Between" is a novel written by Ngugi Wa Thiong'o based on the separation of two neighboring villages of Kenya that are torn apart by their differences of faith. It depicts and analyzes the conflict between missionaries seeking to spread their Christian faith and the indigenous African tribes. It also explores the consequences of living under colonialism and describes the African fight for independence from colonial powers. As Ngugi Wa Thiong'o grew up in this time and first hand witness it happened he used this book to get his story out. The Main character, Waiyaki, I believe Thiong'o used him to actually portray himself in a way and the situation he witness growing up. One thing that stood out to me was Ngugi Wa Thiong'o's writing style. He was very descriptive in his diction use and that caused me to become visually inclined in the book. He also used many analogies or symbolisms that correlated between certain conflicts that made you think about different situations in perspective throughout the novel. This novel I believed got Thiong'o's story out and it makes the reader aware of Africa's past and even current struggles.*Read this book for Dr. Rhonda M. Waiyaki attempts to bridge these worlds to strengthen the tribe and connect with the good of the modern world. The man caught between two worlds is a common theme throughout literature and may be seen as trite. Yet, as usual trite themes are only bad when done by bad writers. Ngugu, however, is a fantastic writer. He is to the Kikuyu what Achebe is to the Ibo. This book is thoroughly enthralling; not only do I give this book 5 stars I would put it in must read.

This is absolute must have for those that have this disorder. This textbook really explains alot about RSD/CRPS and what the person who has it, or those who love those who have the disorder experience/suffer as a result of having this disorder. It is a highly technical piece of work, but there are many areas that are easy to read and understand, and will shed a clearer view on RDS/CRPS. It is especially nice to have it all in one tome of work instead of all over the place, making researching easier. After reviewing this book, you will be able to ask your pain doctors, neurologists better directed questions, and will have better answers for yourself. I myself could not wait to get my hands on a copy....it has proven to be invaluble.

A great book with a ton of information.

If you have RSD, Dr. Hooshmund has now retired, however, he is 'the' Doc in inderstanding RSD. So even though it is a medical text, it is a wonderful book to have if you have this condition, or have a family member who does. Or if you know of someone with the condition, it would make the best gift to them (after you have read some of it yourself).You will not get the information in any other book or article. it tells of an amino acid that we need that gets drained from our bodies and other pertinent information.

This book is excellent. A difficult subject made understandable. I read it after extreme suffering for about 2 years. That was 1994. I went looking for Dr. Hooshmand and took my wife to see him in Vero Beach. She did well and he helped me a great deal both as in my medical understanding as well as in dealing with pain without use of narcotics. We had been to many physians and done multiple therapies prior to reading his book. Dr. Hooshmand outlined what was wrong and gave a course of care that went as he said it would. I was intending to pass on my gratitude to him and just found out he has retired. He had written a great deal of medical literature and I find his studies all most interesting.

This book explains RSD by one of the best Doctors.As One of his former Patients and a rsd sufferer Dr.Hooshmand was able to explain Perfectly! Well worth every cent.Should be Called the RSD Bible.
