I understand they are still using the original or "classic" printing, but couldn't they at LEAST color the "yellow ducklings" yellow??? The story SAYS the ducklings are YELLOW. Explain that to your kid at bedtime and get back to me. That comes off as cheap in my opinion and not what you'd expect with a trusted brand like Golden Books. The story, of course, is riveting and dramatic in a child's eyes. My son and daughter LOVE this story about an outcast who finds his way home. Required reading for ANY child.
I remember really liking the story years ago. The story is pretty much the same, but the illustrations aren't good. Biggest issue - some pages aren't full color, and it doesn't make sense because the author describes colors and then the color doesn't show up.
Okay so the story is not quite like the original. The duckling never grows up to become a swan. He just meets a mother swan who "adopts" him. The kids still get the point of the story but I'm not really happy with it. Also, and this is a big one. The ducklings are white, not yellow, so the ducklings actually look just like the baby swan only smaller. I'm planning to color the ducklings with a coloring pencil. They do appear yellow on the last page of the book but it's the only one.
The book brought back fond memories both in pictures and words.Nice for a five year old.

Classic story. I like the small size. ERasier for little hands to hold.
My granddaughter loves this classic.
Before we saw the play, I bought this book to read to my grandchildren. Golden Books are wonderful.
